No Buffets, Ever

20+ Real Restaurants, All Included

Virgin Voyages has zero buffets on any of its ships. Instead, you get 20+ sit-down restaurants and eateries with menus developed by Michelin-starred chefs, all fully included in your fare. No specialty dining surcharges, no daily dining packages to purchase separately.

Cabins: What to Expect
Insider Cabin

Sea View Cabin

Window, No Balcony

Natural light without outdoor space. A comfortable mid-range option. Same amenities as an Insider but with an ocean view.

Sea Terrace (Most Popular)

Private Balcony with Hammock

The sweet spot for most first-timers. Private balcony with a hammock, stunning ocean views, and the best cabin for enjoying sea days. The most popular category onboard and the one most advisors recommend for a first sailing.

Rockstar Quarters & Suites

Larger spaces with a dedicated Rockstar Agent concierge, priority boarding, 60-day dining reservation window (vs. 45 for standard), and access to the exclusive Richard's Rooftop sun deck. Includes Mega RockStar, RockStar, and other suite categories.

📌 Cabin Tips

📌 Shore Things Tips
  • Book before you sail. Popular tours (snorkeling, waterfall climbs) sell out weeks in advance
  • VV-organized Shore Things guarantee the ship will not leave without you if your tour runs late
  • Going independently? Be back at the gangway at least 30 minutes before departure or risk being left behind
  • Check port arrival and departure times in the app, as some ports have late-night departures giving you extra time ashore
9
Embarkation Day: Your First 24 Hours
⚠ Critical Before You Arrive

Never put your passport in checked luggage. Keep it in your carry-on at all times. Your carry-on should also include medications, phone charger, swimsuit, and sunscreen. Your checked bags can take 2+ hours to reach your cabin after you board.

The Night Before
Fly in the evening before. Never day-of.
Flight delays happen and the ship will not wait. If you absolutely must fly in on embarkation day, your flight needs to land by 11 AM at the latest and only to a local airport.
At the Terminal
Arrive at your selected time only
Boarding times vary by sailing and homeport. Check your Terminal Arrival Time in the app, which is set during check-in. Arriving before your assigned window will not get you onboard sooner; you will simply wait outside. Early boarders who select an early arrival time get first pick of spa slots, dining reservations released onboard, and an uncrowded ship to explore.
The Moment You Board
Drop bags, connect to WiFi, lock in dining and shows
Your cabin is ready immediately. No waiting. Drop your carry-on, get your Sailor wristband, and connect to ship WiFi (disable VPN first). Head to the Razzle Dazzle Dining Concierge desk to grab remaining reservation slots. Then go straight to the Box Office near Sailor Services (Deck 5) to book headline shows before they sell out.
Early Afternoon
Explore and eat at The Galley
The Galley (Deck 16), pool deck, spa tour (Deck 5), and The Social Club are all open. Get your bearings, grab a free coffee, and enjoy the ship while it's still quiet.
Before Sail-Away
Muster Drill: Mandatory and Quick
Watch the safety video in the app or on your cabin TV, then head to your muster station when the ship-wide announcement plays. Scan your wristband and watch a short life jacket demonstration. The whole process takes around 10 minutes. Do it early so it does not disrupt your first dinner.
Late Afternoon
Sail-Away Party on the pool deck
The Let's Set Sail party on the pool deck kicks off the voyage officially. Solo sailors have a dedicated meetup at The Athletic Club just before this.
Late Evening, Night 1
PJ Party: Do Not Skip This
Yes, it is late. Yes, embarkation day is exhausting. Go anyway. The PJ Party only happens once per voyage and it is consistently one of the most talked-about experiences onboard. Day 2 is usually a sea day so you can sleep in.

Solo Sailor Tips

Sailing Alone? Virgin Voyages Is One of the Best Lines for It

The adults-only atmosphere, open social events, and structured solo meetups make meeting people genuinely easy. Here is how to make the most of it:

  • Solo meetups: Organized at 9 AM and 4 PM daily by the Happenings Cast. Check the app each morning for exact times and location
  • Dining reservation swap: At solo meetups, sailors exchange single-seat reservations at popular restaurants like The Wake and Extra Virgin with other solos who have conflicting time slots. This is the best way to get into sold-out restaurants
  • The Grog Walk: The easiest way to make friends on the ship. Couples and solos naturally mix throughout the bar crawl
  • PJ Party and Scarlet Night: Both are built for social mixing. Show up alone and you will leave with a group
  • The Happenings Cast: Introduce yourself early in the voyage. They give exclusive pins to engaged sailors and are natural connectors for meeting other people onboard
  • Solo cabin category: VV offers dedicated Solo Insider cabins with no single supplement. Note that Solo cabins are not eligible for some Sailor Loot promotions
  • Richard's Rooftop: Reserved exclusively for Rockstar and suite guests. Not accessible on a standard cabin booking
11
Pre-Sail Checklist
  • Download the Virgin Voyages app and complete your full account setup
  • Select your Terminal Arrival Time in the app as early as possible
  • Pre-purchase your Bar Tab before sailing to earn bonus drink credit (minimum $300 recommended)
  • Book dining reservations at midnight Miami time when your window opens: 45 days out for standard cabins, 60 days for Rockstar
  • Browse Shore Things excursions and pre-book any must-dos before they sell out
  • Pack something red for Scarlet Night (mid-voyage)
  • Pack pajamas or a onesie for the Night 1 PJ Party. Keep them in your carry-on so they're accessible right away
  • Fly in the night before embarkation day if you are traveling by air
  • Confirm gratuities are prepaid at $20/night to avoid the $22/night onboard rate
  • Review the prohibited items list in the app: no hard liquor, no drones, some electrical items restricted
  • Keep your passport and boarding pass in your carry-on. Never in checked luggage
  • Bring reef-safe sunscreen. It's available onboard but more expensive than bringing your own
  • Ask your travel advisor about active Sailor Loot promotions for your booking

Common First-Timer Questions
Is there a dress code?
No formal nights. Ever. Dress however you like for every restaurant and every event. Smart casual works everywhere. Some sailors go all-out for Scarlet Night or dinner at The Wake, others wear jeans and a nice top. Both are completely fine. The only suggestions are to wear red on Scarlet Night and pajamas on Night 1, and both are optional.
Can I bring wine or alcohol onboard?
Each cabin is permitted to bring up to two 750ml bottles of wine in carry-on luggage only. Hard liquor and beer are not permitted. Small quantities of water, non-alcoholic beer, or soft drinks in boxes or cans are allowed in hand luggage. All items must be in your carry-on, not checked bags.
What is the muster drill like?
No old-school line-up in a life jacket in the heat. Virgin Voyages uses a digital muster system. Watch the safety video on your cabin TV or in the app first, then head to your muster station when the ship-wide announcement plays on embarkation day. Scan your wristband to check in and watch a short life jacket demo with the crew. The whole thing takes about 10 minutes.
How does payment work onboard?
The ship is entirely cashless. Your Sailor wristband is linked to your cabin folio and is your onboard wallet. A $250 pre-authorization hold is placed on your registered credit or debit card when you board. Everything charges automatically. Check your balance anytime in the app and settle up in cash or by card at Sailor Services (Deck 5) before disembarking.
Do I need a passport?
For international port stops, which most Caribbean itineraries include, a valid passport is required and strongly recommended for all sailors. For closed-loop sailings departing and returning to the same US port, US citizens may travel with a government-issued ID and certified birth certificate, but a passport is always the safer option. Non-US citizens should verify entry requirements for each destination port.
What about seasickness?
Modern cruise ships have stabilizers that significantly reduce motion, but sea conditions do vary. If you are prone to motion sickness, take medication before you feel any symptoms, as it works far better as a preventative than a cure. Ginger candies, acupressure wristbands, and prescription patches are also popular options. Take them before you board, not after you feel ill.
What is the Sailing Club loyalty program?
You are automatically enrolled after completing your first eligible voyage. Blue Extras unlocks after 2 qualifying sailings, and Deep Blue Extras unlocks after 4. Deep Blue benefits include a $100 Bar Tab, unlimited Premium WiFi, priority boarding, and exclusive cocktail events. Only full-fare bookings count toward tier progression. Not all discounted rate types qualify.
Which ship will I be on?
Virgin Voyages currently operates four ships: Scarlet Lady, Valiant Lady, Resilient Lady, and Brilliant Lady. All four carry approximately 2,770 guests and offer the same core experience. Some events, like Klub Rubiks (80s Night), are ship-specific and confirmed in the app. Your booking confirmation will specify which ship you are sailing on.
